UK NURSING JOBS FOR OVERSEAS NURSES

Starting October 2015, the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) has established a mandatory two-part competency test for Nurses and Midwives seeking registration in the UK. These tests are applicable to all professionals who have been trained outside the UK.

These tests of competence are designed to measure the candidates against the current UK pre-registration standards, and judge their skills and competencies in professional nursing or midwifery. The first part of this test is the CBT (Computer-Based Test), which is conducted at Pearson VUE test centres in your native country. The second part of the test is the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE), which will be conducted at designated centres in the UK.

What are the eligibility criteria?

If you are a nurse aspiring to work in the UK, you should commence the process by registering with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC). In order to do so, you must meet the following eligibility criteria:
Qualification : GNM / B.Sc. / Post B.Sc. / M.Sc. in Nursing
Work Experience : Minimum 1 year as a Registered Nurses in the last five years
English Language Requirements : Any one of the below tests is acceptable. (Clubbing scores are acceptable, but note that two test sittings must not be more than six months apart. Please check for eligibility of your clubbing scores.)

  • An IELTS score of overall and individual 7 (no band less than 6.5) A 6.5 score in the Writing section of the test is acceptable alongside a 7.0 score in each of the Reading, Listening and Speaking sections of the test.
  • OET B for Reading, Listening and Speaking and C+ for Writing are accepted from 28th Jan 2020, with retrospective effect, subject to 2 years
